An Appeal for Gabby

The Jefferson County Humane Society strives to assist as many homeless animals in the county as our limited space and finances will allow.
Occasionally, a special situation presents itself that prompts a plea for extra help. This special situation is Gabby.
Gabby, a heartworm positive, starving dog with cancerous mammary tumors and severe infection in her right eye, came to the shelter approximately 2 weeks ago.
She was evaluated by a local veterinarian who determined that although her medical situation is critical, she has a fighting chance to recover, with medical assistance, and to enjoy a much happier life.
Unfortunately, Gabby’s health was so poor that she could not have withstood the surgeries that would save her life. Gabby is being carefully nursed so that she can have her life saving surgeries, currently scheduled for Monday February 21, 2011.
Gabby needs to undergo the following treatments to ensure her full recovery: removal of 3 cancerous mammary tumors (one of which is extremely large), spay surgery, removal of damaged and infected right eye, and heartworm treatment.
The Humane Society is seeking to raise $800 to provide for Gabby’s expenses. “This dog truly has a chance to overcome a very difficult life and make someone the perfect canine companion”, says Board President Mark Kessler.
